Cisco launches direct operations in QatarDubai. Networking major Cisco has launched its direct operations in Qatar aimed at cementing its regional growth and investment strategy, and furthering its commitment to its customers in the country. Cisco has also recently established two networking academies in Doha to bridge the growing information and communications technology (ICT) skills shortages by providing a curriculum tailored to industry needs. The company’s operations in Qatar will be headed by Wayne Hull, Cisco’s recently appointed South Gulf country manager. “The Gulf region ranks as one of the fastest growing regions for Cisco worldwide. We are still in rapid growth mode and, as a result, Cisco continues its strategic investments in the right resources,” Samer Alkharrat, the general manager of Cisco Gulf, said. In November 2006, Cisco signed its largest ever consultancy agreement with Energy City Qatar for the design of advanced technology solutions required to support the $2.6 billion regional energy hub.
